About Us

Named for Native Americans who once lived in the area, Occoneechee State Park is a 2695 acre Virginia State Park located on Buggs Island Lake (John H Kerr Reservoir). Popular with boaters and anglers, the park offers three boat ramps and 24 hour lake access. Boat rentals, fishing and boating supplies are available from a private concessionaire. Occoneechee Marina offers year round annual and monthly boat slips with water and electric service and fuel dock. Six slips are available for nightly rentals to overnight camping and cabin guests. A visitor center and museum introduce visitors to Native American history and the indigenous Occoneechee people. Visitors will find 20 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, nature observation and self-guided interpretive opportunities. Camping options include 48 campsites for the tents and RV's, 11 equestrian campsites with covered stalls and easy access to horse trails. Eleven housekeeping cabins and two 6 bedroom family lodges provide all the comforts of home. Two picnic shelters and outdoor amphitheater provide excellent opportunities for weddings and family gatherings.
